rexx38 The first time I played this I felt strangled by ideas and arrangements, but in a good way. The album has since, of course, become my best friend. Favorite track: Dada Creep.

about

The music of Opposite Sex is, they say, “an absurdist-logico mix of Euro pop, Beat poetry, and subterranean lo-fi adventuring." The album is their own unique genre-defying trip through the experimental pop underground of their imaginations.

“The new wave of New Zealand pop begins here....it’s remarkable, leaping from sea-sick waltzes and crunchy post-punk to ADD-pop (see the hyper opener “La Rat”) 4/5 Uncut

“The kind of half-melted, buckled pop that suggests they’ve just re-entered earth’s atmosphere after a long strange trip away... Opposite Sex attract rather than repel.” Q

"It's absolutely brilliant...I absolutely adore it. It's going to be in my top five albums of the year definitely." Marc Riley, BBC 6Music

“...one of those amazing pieces of ragged art that must simply be heard to be believed...Get it.” 9/10 Popmatters.com

“weird and fantastic... Opposite Sex is one of the most infectious local debuts of recent years.” 8/10 undertheradar.co.nz 50

Opposite Sex formed in Gisborne, in the North Island of NZ, and moved to Dunedin in the South Island of NZ early in 2011.

Their music ranges from oddly poppy carnival waltzes through to manic and melodic post-punk, art-pop and no wave weirdness.

Their self-titled debut album was released on Dunedin underground psych-pop label Fishrider Records in November 2011 and again in the UK in conjunction with Occultation Recordings in May 2012.
